Netmeeting in Windows XP

You may be wondering where Microsoft Netmeeting® has gone in Windows XP. It's there, it's present by default, but there's no shortcuts to it in the Start menu or on the desktop. In fact there doesn't seem to be any shortcuts to it at all.

You can make your own shortcut if you'd like or just use the run command to start it. More information on making shortcuts can be found in our article entitled Function Keys.

Anyhow, to start Netmeeting...

  1. Click the Start button
  2. Click Run...
  3. Type conf
  4. Click OK

See? That's not so hard.

To create a shortcut to Netmeeting on the Desktop using the shortcut wizard...

  1. Right-click an empty area of the Desktop and select New > Shortcut
  2. In the Create Shortcut wizard:
    · For the location enter "C:\Program Files\NetMeeting\conf.exe" - WITH quotes, where C: is your Home Drive

    OR

    · Browse to the NetMeeting folder (in your Prgram Files folder) and select conf.exe
  3. Click Next
  4. Type NetMeeting for the name
  5. Click Finish
