Clean LastKey Regedit

If you've been moving about this site for any length of time then by now you've probably been opening, closing, and navigating the registry quite a bit. The problem is that there's an annoying “feature” that is set so that the last entry viewed in the registry is saved. You can delete this manually if you want (if you're reading this then you don't need directions) by navigating to this key:

Before attempting the following make sure you read and understand Registry Editing Warning.

In the right hand pane you'd just delete the information stored in the "LastKey" branch and that should take care of it. However that's a pain really and there's a much easier way.

Download clean_regedit.zip
Extract it to a handy place where you'll remember it. When you click the VBScript file it will open regedit without it having remembered where you were last which makes it a great deal easier to navigate.

Note:
If you do the above you will lose your ability to keep favorites in your registry editor but how many people actually bother with that feature? If you do bother with it then you probably don't want use this script to open regedit. You can use the script a number of different ways, you can make a shortcut to it and then make it a open from the run dialogue box, you can use it to clean up when you're done, or you can use it every time you open the registry editor.
