Print Screen - Screenshots

Throughout this site and many other sites you will often find screen shots of the various operating systems and the menus and the like. It has been asked a number of times what process it is that we go through to get these shots. The process is rather varied but here's a simple way for you to do so.

  1. Press the Print Screen key (sometimes labeled just plain Print)
  2. Open Paint (or any other graphics program really)
  3. Press "Shift + Insert" or "ctrl + V" (or app's Edit > Paste) to paste the image into the application (depending on the program, File > New may be necessary before pasting)
  4. Edit (if need be) and save the image

Of course that's not really how we do it. We find that unacceptable for our needs and recommend the freeware version of from XnView for your screen capturing needs. For the screenshots from the various Operating Systems we aquire those through the use of either Microsoft's Virtual PC or VMWare — both suit our needs just fine.

For the record if you'd like to make use of any of the screenshots included on this site for educational, non-profit, or personal use you have our permission — note our Copyright page (and, well, oh heck, if you need a screenshot of something wierd you can ask us via our Contact G³ page — I mean it couldn't hurt to ask. Of course we promise nothing:).
