Additional System Information
There's a lot of information that you might want to know about your hardware, disk usage, and the likes. And so we present to you the following:
XP Professional:
Windows XP Pro users can click start > Run... > type cmd > click OK > then at prompt type systeminfo > press the Enter key and that will display a great deal more information about the system — from uptime, CPU Mhz, to all the hotfixes installed.
Below are a few applications that can help you with gathering extended system infomation. All are free for home users and work on all Windows platforms...
Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit
"The Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, including Microsoft Hotfixes, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server."
Unknown Devices - identify devices, find drivers
"Unknown Device Identifier helps you identify unknown devices that are not recognized by Windows. It provides a detailed summary for the manufacturer name, OEM name, device type, device model etc. You can right-click on the entry and search for workable drivers on the Internet (Google)."
SequoiaView
"Ever wondered why your hard disk is full? Or what directory is taking up most of the space? When using conventional disk browsing tools, such as Windows Explorer, these questions may be hard to answer. With SequoiaView however, they can be answered almost immediately."
Note:
When I last visited SequoiaView's site it appears to want to offer you a registry scanning tool automatically when you enter their site. I'd highly recommend closing it with the "X" in the upper right and then disallowing the scan at the prompt. Other than that it's a great tool.
